What are badges?
Badges identify trusted members of the community. The admin team behind Connect Torfaen award badges against a set of criteria. An application needs to be submitted for a badge.
If we’ve asked you to provide evidence, we’ll need to verify that before awarding you a badge.

Community champion
This badge is for someone who goes above and beyond for their community, and/or is knowledgeable of the information in their area.
- Person must be nominated by another member of the community.
- Can provide evidence, eg photos and a written statement on what they have provided for their community
- A written statement of someone they have supported and in what way.
Exercise
This badge is for an individual or organisation insured to deliver exercise courses within the community for free or with a small charge. Apply for the badge with:
- Evidence of safe practice, eg. certificates of courses being delivered;
- Evidence of providing free of charge or small fee to community groups;
- Evidence of insurance (if you're a trainer).
Super connector
This badge is for someone who has broad local knowledge and connects third sector/ community groups/ LA and social services together.
- Send a written statement on your role within the community, employed or volunteering.
- Arrange for a confirmation statement by employer or placement that agrees with your statement.
IT wizard
This badge is for someone who shares skills and knowledge to others, could offer training opportunities in this area
- Send evidence of a training qualification.
- Send us a written statement of support provided in organisation and competence of IT skills.
Marketing guru
This badge is given to someone who supports others to set up social media accounts, can assist in helping with marketing materials.
- Email us evidence of where you have supported 1 or more groups to promote their organisation/charity or event.
Fun in funding
This badge is given to someone who has broad knowledge in applying for and gaining access to funding opportunities.
- Written statement of how you have provided support to an organisation and what exactly you helped them with.
- Include: What, When, Why, How?
Multi-lingual
This badge is given to organisations who can communicate in more than English.
- Email us evidence that someone in the organisation can communicate in English and other languages.
- Written statement or telephone call from the multi-lingual speakers.
Leading change
This badge is given to someone who promotes climate and environmental issues.
- Send us evidence of what your group is doing to improve climate/environmental issues.
- These can include photos, posters, statements.
Volunteer champion
This badge is given to someone who actively participates and encourages volunteering in their area and has supported 2 or more projects with volunteering.
- Provide us with evidence of volunteering roles.
- Send us written references from your roles.
Social entrepreneur
This badge is for individuals and organisations who encourage employment prospects and training opportunities.
- Send us evidence of training courses being provided via posters, links to pages etc
Rising star
This badge is given to someone aged 16-25 who goes above and beyond to support their community.
- Provide us with evidence of volunteering, supporting people in the community, being kind to others etc.
- Send us references from those supported.
Ambassador
This badge is given to those who promote their own service on social media and has a direct link on their Connect Torfaen bio to facebook/twitter/instagram.
- Send us evidence of social media sites.
- Send us evidence of skills used.
- We'll check if you're linking to your social media from your Connect profile.
Creative genius
This badge is given to someone who designs pages, social media, and group logos or has inspirational ideas for community groups that have prevailed.
- Email us evidence of pages helped to set up, pictures/statement etc.
- Include a statement of what you could offer to other people.
Warm hubs
This badge is given to Warmhubs. Warmhubs are places where residents can socialize and stay warm. Only organisations/groups listed as a Warmhub on Connect Torfaen is an accredited safespace.
